Un crucero fluvial gay-friendly: una forma única de ver los Países Bajos, Alemania y Austria
Netherlands - Germany - Austria
Europe is one of the “must-go” places for your gay holidays, and what better way to gain some memories than to travel on a river cruise. This is a wonderful option because you have the opportunity to see many different places in one trip, dock in Europe’s popular gay countries, and enjoy different vibes of the nightlife.
While you’re travelling, you will notice that the region is decorated with gorgeous villages and cities on the banks of Europe’s most famous rivers. Some of these beautiful waters include Danube, Rhine, the Seine, and Mossel. Sailing on the river, you will cross the striking landscapes of the following countries and cities:
- Austria: Vienna and Linz
- Germany: Frankfurt and Cologne
- Netherlands: Amsterdam and Rotterdam
- France: Strassbourg and Paris
- Switzerland: Basel
- Belguim: Antwerp
The cruise might have stops in all these places. Sometimes, you might be docked in one of the cities overnight which gives you the opportunity to experience dream-like gay cities that are famous worldwide. When you’re on your gay holidays, this is a chance you don’t want to give up!
From the breath-taking views to the interesting cuisine, each country will add an extra dip in the culture train. No stop is the same as the last, and this gay river cruise is the perfect chance for you to see the region in one go. The cruises are, usually, about seven days long and most start in Amsterdam, Netherlands and finish in another city like, Basel, Switzerland. There are other 10-day routes which will take you from Vienna, Austria to Amsterdam, Netherlands with several stops in between. You can check the list above for some examples.
Your meals on the cruises are included in the price of the ticket. Sometimes your drinks will also be included, but that really depends on the company you booked with. So, research this ahead of time.
I have a small warning to my fellow gay travellers. There is a possibility that there will be a slight language barrier. The language on board might be different according to the cruise you booked. The entire menu and entertainment options onboard will be in a specific language. Though, I wouldn’t want you to worry because the crew will speak in English and they can help you translate anything you don’t understand. It’s also important to note that the guests would usually be speaking German, French, or English.
River cruises usually have a guest capacity of 150. These guests are split onto three different decks whether it’s families or otherwise. The cruise director, onboard, will organize 1 to 2 different tours of each destination. If you would like to participate, there is an extra cost for these.
From my experience, if you’re going on a gay holiday, River Cruises are perfect examples of what you can do to zest up your trips. If you’re looking to relax and enjoy sailing through beautiful landscapes, then consider taking the cruises out for a spin. Most of the guests onboard will be older, but it’s not a rule. Feel free, feel comfortable, and if you’re itching to go on a cruise through Europe, take this chance! Though, keep in mind that a European river cruise is far different than your regular gay cruises that are filled with our kinds of parties, if you know what I mean.
I worked on River Cruises for around five years, and I have never felt the freedom of travelling to so many cities and villages like this before. It’s, truly, a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you would not want to miss!
I wish you have a lovely gay time and please contact me if you need any help!
Recomendaciones
Hoteles
Onboard these gay-friendly River Cruises, you do not have to worry about accommodation. Some guests prefer to stay a day or two before the cruise sets sail or extra time after it docks. This means you would need to figure out your accommodation in those locations during your gay holidays.
If you’re thinking of booking a hotel before or after your cruise, take a look at my recommendations below. Don’t forget, where the cruise sets off and where it docks are completely different locations. So, keep that in mind when you book your hotel.

Bares/Discotecas/Saunas
These River Cruises will have a bar. Try to book a ticket that is all-inclusive. That way, your drinks will be included in the price of the trip. If you haven’t done this, you may have to pay extra to get some cocktails at the bar.
When you’re docked overnight in a country, this will give you the chance to experience the nightlife wherever you are!
Make sure you are back on the cruise 30 mins before departure.
Have fun!
Transporte
One thing to make sure of is your transportation to and from the cruise ship. From my experiences, I was responsible for booking those myself. So, you might have to as well. If your home country is in Europe, be sure to check out the train connections since it could help you greatly. If you prefer to take a plane, which might take you less time to reach the starting point, then go right ahead.
There is a cruise director onboard who will help you make your gay trip even more memorable in case you need his/hers/their help.
I would recommend that you do book some travel insurance just in case there is any delay and feel free to contact me for any help if you need it.
