Amsterdam - City that can run for gay capital in Europe

Netherlands

When I think about Amsterdam, actually when I think about the entire country of the Netherlands, there is only one thing in my mind: freedom! I have travelled around the country, seen gorgeous villages, towns, and cities, and the entire country is as open-minded as they say.

Previously, I worked on a cruise ship and had some overnight stays in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hoor, Haarlem, Groningen, and tons of other places. I can assure you that there are incredible opportunities for discovery. The Netherlands has an abundance of places to see, things to do, and I would, for sure, recommend it for a city-break or for a long gay trip around the country.

Amsterdam is listed as one of the top places for the LGBTQIA+ community. Its café shops are well-known and filled with life. It is completely legal as well. The city is a gay destination for those who are looking to travel with their partners for a romantic trip. Imagine holding your partners hand as you travel through the city’s canals on boats. Vey romantic!

When it comes to open-mindedness, I’m sure you have heard of the RED DISTRICT. The famous street is proof that Amsterdam is a one-of-a-kind city. If you take a walk through this street, you will see windowed shops filled with women who provide sexual services. You might even see men doing the same. You won’t find a society as open as this city. There are some interesting coffee shops known for getting “high and happy.” They are quite popular and you can find them around every corner.

Amsterdam is a city of luxury and quality. If you are the fashionista kind of gay man, you will feel right at home here. The streets are lined with branded shops, luxurious clothing, and local products for you to melt your heart in.

Moving around the city is fairly easy. You don’t even have to use the canals because the city is very “walking-friendly.” It gave me the chance to appreciate the architecture, view the wonderful sights, and take in the city. It is also, probably, the number one city when it comes to travelling by bike. Pay attention, though, the streets are filled with people on bicycles.

Finally, we’ve come to the part you’ve all been waiting for, the gay nightlife. Its eccentric vibes are filled with rainbow flags, plenty of gay clubs and gay bars, some of which are cruising bars. For the gay couples or the single gay men who love a little bit of romance, there is a special cruise that travels around town. It’s a fabulous opportunity to experience Amsterdam’s gay lifestyle.

Whether you are coming by yourself, with your partner, or your family, Amsterdam is a city you can feel comfortable. Same-sex couples can be seen holding hands or kissing in public because no one really cares what you do or who you are. It’s common to live your life as you see fit. So, don’t be scared to show your loved ones some emotions, Amsterdam is a very safe city for the gay community.

One thing to be warned of in Amsterdam, is the rain. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, you can expect some rain. So, bring your umbrellas.

Amsterdam is all about freedom. It’s about expressing your love the way you want to express it. It’s about being who you are without anyone telling you otherwise. It, truly, is one of the most visited gay destinations on the planet.

I wish you have a fabulous time there!

Amsterdam, the Netherlands as a whole, has been so welcoming to the LGBTQIA+ community. You don’t need to worry about showing your true colours. Every hotel, Airbnb, hostel, or motel is automatically labelled as gay-friendly. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a gay hotel that caters to only gay men.

The below link is one of my favourite gay-friendly hotels that you can stay at:

  1.  Amistad Hotel
