São Francisco - capital gay dos Estados Unidos
EUA
When you’re ready to travel to the west coast and visit one of the gayest cities in America, San Francisco, there are tons of things for you to do that will vamp up your gay holidays. If you’re feeling like a day next to the ocean, an adventure under some incredible skyscrapers, or experiencing the vibrant nightlife, you’d be surprised about how much this gay city-break has to offer.
When it comes to sightseeing, you have tons of options to choose from. I would recommend heading first to the Golden Gate Bridge. You’ve probably seen it in movies but this bridge is one of the world’s most famous landmarks. You can walk across the entirety of the structure or take a boat ride that goes under the bridge. Both are fantastic and recommended. Another famous sight to see in San Francisco is Alcatraz Prison. The world-famous prison is now no longer functioning and has been transformed into a museum. You would need to take a boat to get there but you can easily find them near Pier 39.
Speaking of Pier 39, this incredible place is one of the Bay Area’s most visited places. You can try seafood restaurants, see a group of sea lions relaxing on the pier, and enjoying the sun with a beer in your hand. It, definitely, is a one-of-a-kind place to visit.
In San Francisco, you have some great gay neighbourhoods that you have to visit. The Castro is one of the most sought-after places for gay travellers. The street is bursting with rainbow colours from flags, painted sidewalks, and crossroads. There are tons of bars and places to visit here. What is interesting about this place is how much LGBTQIA+ activism goes on. It’s definitely worth the adventure. Gay travellers would, usually, head to The Mission, another popular gay neighbourhood. It’s known for its diverse cuisines. You can visit restaurants that bring you food from all corners of the globe.
Some other places to visit are Union Square, the Ferry Tower, Golden Gate Park, and Lombard Street. These are just a few places, but in San Francisco, the city is your oyster. Explore the hills and take the boat tours, nothing will disappoint you.
Thanks Sami A.F. for pictures, and sharing your experience.
I hope you have a wonderful time in San Francisco!

Hotéis
Even though San Francisco does not have any gay-only hotels, almost every hotel in the city is labelled as gay-friendly. You would feel safe and comfortable in any choice you make. I would really suggest looking in the gay neighbourhoods such as The Castro, SoMa, or The Mission.
Here are some great hotels that I would recommend.
They are all located in the Castro neighbourhood.
This is not a 5-star hotel. Keep in mind that this place is for those gay travellers who are on a budget.
2. Hampton Inn
This is a great option. The owners will make your gay holidays incredibly comfortable.
Bares/Clubes/Saunas
San Francisco has an abundance of incredible bars and clubs that would make your gay holidays even more exciting. I would recommend sticking to some of the gay neighbourhoods mentioned above so that you can enjoy the experience to the max. This gay city break is amazingly colourful and you can rest assured that you and your gay travel buddies would feel safe and comfortable while you paint the town red!

Bars and Clubs in The Mission Neighbourhood:
There are a ton more options you can try out in San Francisco. It would take too long to write out every option you have but these three neighbourhoods are some of the most popular out there. If you walk down the streets, you will come across some great bars and clubs to explore.
You are really only limited by your imagination.
Get exploring!
Transporte
In San Francisco, there are three major airports you can access. They are all international airports and have both domestic and international flights, making them some of the easiest airports to get to no matter where you are. Check out the details below:
1. San Francisco International Airport
This is the largest airport in the Bay Area and is really close to the center of the city. The details below outline how you can get to the downtown area very easily:
- You can take a car or an uber because downtown is only 10 minutes away
- If you want to take the train, you can get on it from Terminal G to Baden and walk for 10 minutes. It is far cheaper
2. Oakland International Airport
If you’re heading somewhere close to the East side of the Bay Area, Oakland International Airport is the way to go.
- It is around 25 minutes by car or uber
- You can take the bus if you prefer a more budget-friendly option. There is a lot of walking to be done and many buses to take to get to the downtown area of San Francisco. I would, seriously, recommend just taking an uber because, with your bags, it will be a very big inconvenience.
3. San Jose International Airport
This is another major airport in the area but is much farther than the other two. There are busses that can take you to the San Francisco Downtown area but it will be around two and a half hours to get there.
Follow the instructions below:
- A car or uber will take you around 50 minutes and can be considered very expensive.
- With the busses, you can take one directly from Terminal A of the San Jose International Airport. Head to Mission St & 7thSt. Take another bus to McAllister St & Hyde St. Downtown will be just a 2-minute walk away.
So, there you have it! These are the easiest ways to get to the Bay Area’s downtown.
